Jul-Mar govt borrowing slumps 69pc

KARACHI: Government sector borrowing for budgetary support saw a significant decline of 69 percent — amounting to Rs 2.9 trillion — during the first nine months of the current fiscal year (FY25).

As per the Economic Survey of Pakistan released on Monday, government borrowing for budgetary support fell to Rs 1.320 trillion during July–March FY25, compared to Rs 4.220 trillion during the same period in FY24. This marks a substantial reduction of Rs 2.9 trillion. Additionally, the government repaid Rs 287.4 billion to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), down from Rs 654.7 billion retired during the corresponding period last year.
