ISLAMABAD: The prices of essential kitchen items remained largely stable this week compared to the previous week, according to a survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday.

The survey noted a decline in chicken prices, which fell from Rs16,400 to Rs15,200 per 40-kg in the wholesale market. In retail, chicken is now being sold at Rs410 per kg, down from Rs440, while chicken meat is available at Rs700 per kg. Egg prices remained unchanged at Rs7,300 per 30-dozen carton, with retail prices ranging between Rs260 and Rs275 per dozen.

Sugar prices also remained steady at Rs8,800 per 50-kg bag in the wholesale market. However, in retail, it is being sold at Rs190 per kg — Rs20 higher than the government-fixed price of Rs170 per kg. Retailers attributed the overcharging to limited supply from sugar millers and stockists, stating that prices will align with official rates once regular supply resumes.
