Over 50 ultra-processed food items may face 5% FED
ISLAMABAD: In a significant move to boost revenue, the government is expected to introduce a 5 percent Federal Excise Duty (FED) on more than 50 categories of ultra-processed foods in the upcoming 2025–26 budget.
Sources informed Business Recorder on Monday that the proposal under consideration includes levying FED on a broad range of ultra-processed food items such as frozen foods, chips, carbonated beverages, instant noodles, ice cream, biscuits, frozen meats, sauces, ready-to-eat meals, sausages, and several other similar products.
